Victims file a civil lawsuit in the U.S. against the former Attorney General of the State of Nayarit, Mexico for torture committed by him and by state agents under his command

Five families from Nayarit, Mexico, have filed a civil lawsuit in the U.S. against former state prosecutor Edgar Veytia under the Torture Victim Protection Act (TVPA). Represented by G37 Centre, Baker McKenzie, acting pro bono, and  the Civil Rights Litigation Clinic (CRLC) of the University of California Irvine School of Law headed by law practitioner and professor Paul L. Hoffman, the claimants seek accountability for human rights violations committed during Veytia’s tenure, known as the “Terror in Nayarit” due to the extreme arbitrariness of his actions and a long list of atrocities carried out misusing his legal power.

G37 Centre has been working for over four years in cooordination with national partners, including “JT MX. Justicia Transicional en México”.  The work originated from a local initiative for demanding justice, accountability and truth-seeking, led by a group of “Nayaritas” (Nayarit citizens).
