
Alejandro Celorio

Alejandro Celorio is an experienced international lawyer, with more than 20 years of experience in the Mexican federal government and 18 as a career diplomat. His last position was Principal Legal Adviser of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he coordinated international litigations before the International Court of Justice in the case Embassy of Mexico in Quito (Mexico v. Ecuador), four cases before the InterAmerican Court of Human Rights and one at the International Tribunal of the Law of the Seas (ITLOS). He designed and coordinated Mexico´s legal strategy against illicit trafficking of firearms, including the filing of two civil lawsuits against US gun manufactures and sellers, as well as a request of an Advisory Opinion to the InterAmerican Court of Human Rights.
Prior, he was posted at the Embassy of Mexico where he gained experience in impact litigation on migration matters and was involved in several cases of Mexican nationals in the United States, particularly those facing immigration control actions. Additionally, he was involved with other stakeholders in the planning of the implementation a potential comprehensive immigration reform in 2013.
He has a bachelor’s degree in law by Universidad La Salle in Mexico City, an LLM in International Transactions and Comparative Law by the University of San Francisco, an LLM in International Law by the University of Houston and several postgraduate degrees in international law, international relations, and government. He teaches Diplomatic Law.
His native language is Spanish and speaks fluent English.
